Kindred beginnings
Hi, I'm Hannah.
I'm the Charge Nurse and director at Kindred. I'm a wife and mum to four boys, based in Hamilton. I've been nursing in a number of different settings for over 20 years. Caring for people is what I love doing, and it's part of who I am. I started Kindred because I saw a real need for high-quality, compassionate care in the home, care that doesn't just support the child, but walks alongside the whole family.
In 2012, our second boy, Talyn, was born with health difficulties that had to be dealt with quickly. They continued without any clarity or diagnosis until he was five. By then we'd become very used to long hospital stays and uncertain times. Our life as a family had changed forever. Even through the ups and downs, Talyn has kept smiling and bouncing back. He's an absolute superstar.
One of the biggest challenges we faced while walking this road with Talyn was learning about funding for support, how to use it, and how to find the right people to help at home. We tried all sorts of solutions over the years, and the same problems kept coming up. I heard similar stories from other parents needing support at home too. The frustration and confusion were so evident.
So I decided to try and do something about it. I organised care for our own family in a new way, where quality was non-negotiable, and I learned that if I could do it for us, maybe I could do it for someone else too.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to live life to their fullest. Supporting children in their everyday lives strengthens family wellbeing, promotes independence, and creates the conditions for families to thrive. I know this to be true from personal experience.
Children and their families deserve to thrive, not just survive, and that's what we hope to help you work towards.

Why use Kindred
Caring for a child means caring for the family around them. Paediatric healthcare is a specialised field, and that doesn't change when it moves into your home.
When a child lives with a complex or life-limiting condition, it brings a responsibility unlike anything else, and whether that lasts a few months or many years, it can feel like a lot to carry. No two families carry it the same way.
You know your child better than anyone. With Kindred you stay at the centre of their care: part of the decisions, part of every step, supported in your own role, never sidelined from it. Because when we look after your child, we consider your whole family too.
Our Values
Service
Help and support that is child focused, logical and meets the child and family where they need it most.
We’ll do our best to craft a plan of care for your child that supports them with the help that makes sense to you and minimises the restrictions commonly found in homecare.
Compassion
Care and passion for children combined, from people that understand the journey of complex care.
Kindred staff know that working with kids requires a different approach. Many of them have their own experiences of children needing help and support. These experiences give them a level of understanding that can’t be put into words.
Excellence
Professional, specialist paediatric care that stands out.
Professional care shouldn't end on hospital discharge. Kindred aims to carve out a new level of excellence and standard of care. Specialist paediatric care from a team who understand complex needs and never stop building on what they know.
Community
Promoting genuine community connection for children and the healthcare professionals who walk alongside them.
The disability and complex care community is a wonderful one. Thriving comes from connecting with others and growing together. Kindred staff aim to help children and families connect with their communities and maintain relationships that support life. We also encourage Kindred staff to connect, learn, and support each other in their roles.
Supporting families across Hamilton, and growing into the wider Waikato.
